Beat Jans
Swiss Justice Minister Beat Jans defended his support for the electronic ID (E-ID) in a live interview with 20 Minuten ahead of the September 28 vote. He argued the E-ID would improve security, accessibility, and online trust, while remaining voluntary. Critics, however, warn of risks to data privacy and greater power for big tech. Jans also addressed current debates, including Fedpol’s decision to drop skin color from police search notices, staff shortages at the federal criminal police, and setbacks in adoption reform. He emphasized that the E-ID app allows users to control which data they share, can be deleted anytime, and includes strong safeguards against hacking. If problems arise, Jans noted, the system could even be switched off as a fallback. 🔗 Full story here

The festivities began with a procession through town alongside his prize bull Zibu, as hundreds of supporters lined the streets. On the central square, local leaders, fellow wrestlers, and fans honored him with speeches, music, and cheers. Orlik sat on a throne, raised a large beer, and delivered a handwritten thank-you speech, while former champions like Jörg Abderhalden offered advice and congratulations. Schoolchildren, young wrestlers, and proud locals joined in the celebration, singing the “Heidi” song and waving banners. The evening ended with concerts and a lively atmosphere, as Maienfeld embraced its first-ever Schwingerkönig. 🔗 Full story here
